How Beauty Unveiled by Tia Began…
From Styling Friends' Hair to Creating a Successful Hair & Makeup Business:
My Journey: Everyone has a unique path that leads them to their passion and career. For me, it all started with a natural talent for styling hair and a serendipitous opportunity that changed the course of my life. In this blog post, I will share the story of how I ventured into the hair and makeup industry, overcoming obstacles and building a successful business along the way.
Discovering my Talent: Growing up, I always had a knack for styling hair. Whether it was helping my friends prepare for special occasions or experimenting with different looks, I found joy in the artistry of hairdressing. Little did I know that this passion would become the foundation for my future career.
A Chance Encounter: Years later, when I had already established my career in property management, a friend who owned a Hair & Makeup business approached me with an exciting proposition. She recognized my talent and asked if I would like to join her at bridal bookings, providing hair styling services alongside her makeup artistry. Although I didn't have a cosmetology license, she reassured me that it was not required for special occasion styling in Wisconsin.
Eager to Learn: Intrigued by the opportunity, I wasted no time in meeting up with my friend for some hands-on training. I immersed myself in learning various hairstyling techniques and honing my skills. As I gained confidence in my abilities to create any look a client requested, I eagerly started assisting her at weddings.
A Turning Point: After assisting with around 10 to 15 weddings, I realized that hair and makeup was more than just a side gig for me - it was a true passion. However, my disappointment grew when my friend informed me that she would be moving to Illinois. This meant I would lose the chance to continue working with her. I faced a crucial decision: either let this opportunity slip away or take a leap of faith and create my own business.
Pursuing my Dream: Being a go-getter by nature, I chose to pursue my dream and establish my own hair business. I dedicated myself to creating a beautiful brand, developing a strong marketing campaign, implementing effective promotional strategies, and investing in continuous training. I knew that if I was going to do this, I wanted to be one of the best in the industry.
Building a Reputation: As I started taking bookings under my own business name, I was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response. The flood of leads surpassed my expectations, and I found myself struggling to keep up with the demand. However, this challenge turned into an opportunity for collaboration.
Collaboration and Growth: Along my journey, I had the privilege of interacting with many talented artists in the hair and makeup industry. Recognizing their skills and potential, I began collaborating with them by forwarding leads that I couldn't fulfill personally. This not only allowed me to build valuable connections but also helped these artists benefit from the opportunities.
Expanding the Business: Realizing that I was leaving potential revenue on the table, I decided to take my business a step further. I offered these talented individuals the chance to join my collaborative team, allowing them to focus on their craft without the burden of managing backend administrative tasks. Many of them eagerly accepted the opportunity, and together, we built a strong and diverse team.
Conclusion: My journey in the hair and makeup industry started with a natural talent and a fortuitous opportunity. Through passion, dedication, and a willingness to take risks, I transformed my hobby into a thriving business. Today, I am grateful for the experiences, knowledge, and connections I have gained along the way. My story serves as a testament to the power of pursuing one's passions and creating opportunities where others may see obstacles.
